The best Old God in Welcome to Elderfield depends on the week ahead, because each of the seven trades stats rather than simply being stronger. You choose at the Church of the Old Gods on Sunday, Father Desmond takes the pledge, and you can switch again on a later Sunday — so a farming week and a boss week can run different alignments. This page compares all seven bonuses, the God Forge recipes they unlock, and where their follower rooms sit.
All 7 Old Gods Compared
Every alignment is a package: two or more stat gains paid for by penalties. The pattern to notice is that the heavier the upside, the more it costs somewhere you might need — Hagroth funds Luck and HP by cutting both damage stats, and Gatis buys Luck and Agility by cutting Defense.
| Old God | Alignment effect | Best fit | God Forge highlights |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gatis — Moon | +10% Luck, +10% Agility, -10% Defense | Exploration and speed when Defense is comfortable | Opal Ring, Moonlight Shoes, Cat's Eyes Necklace |
| Delvek — Mystery | +10% Luck, +10% Max MP, -10% Agility | Luck and ritual use without losing damage | Lucky Die, Cursed Die, Magnifying Glass, Whip of Delvek |
| Kaal — Dead | +10% Defense, +10% Magic Defense, -10% Max MP | Hard fights with both damage types | Ring of Immortality, Bone Shield, Bone Staff |
| Daeus — Deep | +10% Max MP, +10% Defense, -10% Magic Defense, -10% Luck | Ritual use against physical pressure | Lesser and Greater Holy Water, Trident of the Deep, Earring of the Dark Sea |
| Hagroth — Harvest | +10% Luck, +10% Max HP, -10% Attack, -10% Magic Attack | Farming, gathering and low-pressure exploration | Lesser Rune of Growth, Enchanted Pitchfork, Straw Hat |
| Valtris — Knowledge | +10% Max MP, +10% Magic Attack, -10% Max HP | Ritual damage and key-based progression | Basic Skeleton Key, Small Mine Key, Forbidden Lorebook, Starmap of Valtris |
| Nezroth — Flesh | +10% Max HP, +10% Defense, -10% Agility, -10% Magic Defense | Physical durability when magic is not the threat | Blood of the Gods, Bloated Chestplate, Finger Necklace |

Follower Rooms and God Doors
Each god also gates follower rooms in the mines and Catacombs. The locations below come from a community comparison and are best read as room variants and landmarks rather than permanent coordinates, because the same mine can generate different layouts between runs.
| Old God | Documented follower room landmarks |
|---|---|
| Gatis | Greystone Estates; cabin in the Old Woods; Catacombs F3 right, through the pit-room route with Wire Cutters |
| Delvek | Mall Mines F2; Old Woods Mines F2 variant; Catacombs F2 behind a breakable wall |
| Kaal | Old Woods Mine F3; Mall Mines F3 Worm Room variant; Catacombs F3 far right near the Boney Honey Tree |
| Daeus | Mall room with the broken elevator; Old Woods Mine F3; Catacombs F2 behind the third breakable wall near the church entrance |
| Hagroth | Mall Mines F3 big-tree layout; Old Woods Mine F2 variant; Catacombs F3 far right near the Boney Honey Tree |
| Valtris | Mall Mines F3 Ancient Statue Room variant; Catacombs F3 south of the entrance through Wire Cutters and a breakable door |
| Nezroth | Mall Mines F2; Old Woods Mines F2 variant; Catacombs F3 behind the second breakable wall to the right of the entrance |
How to Choose
The practical method is to pick around your next objective rather than hunting one permanent god: check the stats you need, the Forge recipe you want, and whether a follower room you can actually reach is gated behind that alignment.
- Farming or foraging week: Hagroth for Luck and Max HP, and take the damage penalty on the chin.
- Ritual-heavy week: Valtris for Magic Attack and Max MP, or Delvek if you want Luck without losing damage.
- Boss or hard area: Kaal for both defenses, or Nezroth when the threat is physical.
- Exploration: Gatis for Luck and Agility when ordinary fights are under control.
- Physical pressure with rituals in play: Daeus for Max MP and Defense.
A weekly routine that avoids wasted Sunday switches:
- Note your next objective before Sunday, not after.
- Check whether a follower room you can reach is alignment-locked to the god you want.
- Bank the Forge recipe you came for, then switch back when the week changes.
- Re-check your damage stats after switching, because two gods cut one or both damage stats.
Exact God Forge costs, the full list of follower rooms, and Xxarteck's role are not documented yet, so verify them in the current build. For the fights these alignments prepare you for, see the best weapons page and the tips page.
FAQ
How many Old Gods can you follow in Welcome to Elderfield?
Seven are compared as alignment choices: Gatis, Delvek, Kaal, Daeus, Hagroth, Valtris and Nezroth. The wiki's Gods page also carries a separate Xxarteck section, but whether Xxarteck is a pledgeable alignment or a different kind of entity is not fully documented, so treat it as `to confirm`.
How do you change your Old God?
At the Church of the Old Gods on Sunday, with Father Desmond handling the pledge. Choosing an alignment is not permanent — you can change it again on a later Sunday, so a farming week and a boss week can use different gods. During the rest of the week you can still visit the church and inspect the God Forge.
What is the best Old God in Welcome to Elderfield?
There is no single best god, because every one trades stats. Hagroth suits farming with +10% Luck and +10% Max HP at the cost of both damage stats, while Valtris suits ritual damage and key-based progression with +10% Magic Attack, and Kaal suits hard fights with both defenses up and Max MP down.
What does the God Forge give you?
Alignment-specific recipes. Daeus unlocks Lesser Holy Water, Greater Holy Water, Trident of the Deep and Earring of the Dark Sea; Valtris unlocks the Basic Skeleton Key, Small Mine Key, Forbidden Lorebook and Starmap of Valtris; Hagroth unlocks the Lesser Rune of Growth, Enchanted Pitchfork and Straw Hat.
What are follower rooms and God Doors?
Follower rooms are alignment-locked spaces in the mine and Catacombs layouts that you can only enter while following that god. Their locations are best treated as room variants and landmarks rather than fixed coordinates, because Mall Mines and Old Woods Mines can generate different layouts.
