A TOEM 2 guide really comes down to three habits: keep the camera up, clear the short quests in each region before boarding the bus, and treat the journal as your checklist. The game never forces a full clear — regions unlock on roughly half or fewer of their stamps — so the pressure is self-imposed. This page covers what to do first, how the core systems fit together, and a practical first route through the four regions.

What to Do First in TOEM 2

The opening is a straight line. Full-game footage shows the character waking at home, being asked to fix the TV antenna outside, returning in time to watch the Whirlhill broadcast about the Whirling Birch, then changing out of pyjamas in the wardrobe. The camera is the last piece of gear, and photographing Nana is the first stamp.

Early stepWhy it matters
Fix the antennaUnlocks the broadcast that sets up Whirlhill and the Whirling Birch
Watch the broadcastEstablishes the festival destination and the Experience TOEM payoff
Change in the wardrobeHands over the outfit and clears the prologue
Photograph NanaBanks the first stamp and teaches the camera

Before leaving Homelanda, do the region's short list: the Sight photo of your house, the paper plane errand for the man on the shed roof, and the critter photo for the woman under the tree. Each is a stamp, and they are faster to do while you are already there.

Core Systems: Camera, Stamps and Journal

The camera is both a camera and a multitool. Photos solve puzzles, uncover secrets and document discoveries, and the sequel adds attachments that are used in more unconventional ways to overcome problems in each region. The demo preview's example is a screwdriver for a plumber's clogged pipe; Cropten uses scissors; Taletorp uses a hammer.

  • Photos go into a scrapbook that doubles as the inventory you show to quest givers.
  • Focus is a separate action from shooting and is how hidden critters and objects reveal themselves.
  • Stamps come from quests, discoveries and critter entries, and they gate the bus.
  • The journal tracks stamps and quests, and its critter compendium counts 68 creatures game-wide.
  • Photo frames can be decorated, which feeds the Leave Your Mark achievement.

A Beginner Route Through the Regions

The four regions escalate in tool use rather than in difficulty. Homelanda teaches the camera, Cropten teaches the scissors and the jam machine, Taletorp teaches the hammer and potion logistics, and Deltburg teaches the screwdriver and the business-deal chain. Doing the tool quest first in each region pays off, because the tool then unlocks the rest of the area's optional content.

Two questions come up constantly for new players. The first is whether you can get stuck: you cannot, because region gates open on partial completion and the bus always moves you forward. The second is whether missing a quest is permanent — no official source lists permanently missable content, so a later cleanup pass is generally viable.

A short first-run checklist:

  • Talk to every character with a visible quest marker before leaving a region.
  • Photograph critters and sights on sight rather than planning a return trip.
  • Open every gift box you can reach; clothing is spread across all four regions.
  • Do each region's Climbing Challenge and Photo Challenge before boarding the bus.
  • Keep the camera focused on suspicious objects, since many quests only resolve with focus.

FAQ

What should I do first in TOEM 2?

Get dressed and take the camera. Full-game footage shows the opening sequence: fix the antenna outside, watch the Whirlhill broadcast, change out of your pyjamas in the wardrobe, then photograph Nana with the vintage camera to bank your first stamp. Talk to Kioski at the bus stop only when you want to leave Homelanda.

How do regions unlock in TOEM 2?

Through stamps. The Steam description says each stamp is your ticket to unlocking the next region, and Kioski at the bus stop checks the count before handing over a ticket. Community walkthroughs report that only roughly half or fewer of an area's stamps are needed to move on, so you can travel before clearing everything.

What tools does the camera have in TOEM 2?

The camera stays the main puzzle tool and gains attachments. The demo preview shows a screwdriver used on a pipe, Cropten hands out scissors for cutting vines and fabric, and Taletorp uses a hammer to break pots, blocks and targets. Photos themselves go into a scrapbook that doubles as a quest inventory.

Is TOEM 2 too easy or does it have hard puzzles?

It is designed to be relaxed. The Steam description says the game is built to be finished at your own pace with no time limits or tricky requirements for full completion, and one review notes it feels a little easier than the first game. The difficulty comes from finding things, not from execution.

Do I need a guide to finish TOEM 2?

No. Community walkthroughs are aimed at players missing a quest rather than at mandatory progression, and you can reach the credits without clearing every area. A guide is worth using for the collection achievements and for the quests you skated past on a fast run.
